The platelaying operations are carried out by RACEC Rail (Pty) Ltd, a company operating in a niche market of the Engineering Industry. All work is subject to our quality control procedures which ensure compliance with SABS 1200 and Spoornet’s E10 specifications.

RACEC Rail (Pty) Ltd operates throughout South Africa and the rest of the African continent, with permanent offices in:-

  • Epping, Cape Town
    Operates in the industrial track market and currently maintains industrial feeder lines for City of Cape Town, Tygerberg, Stellenbosch, Paarl, Bloemfontein, East London, Port Elizabeth and Upington .
  • Brakpan, Gauteng
    Operates in the industrial track market and currently maintains industrial feeder lines for Mittal Steel, Ekurhuleni, BHP Billiton, Roodekop and Sasol Secunda.
  • Richards Bay, Kwazulu-Natal
    Maintains the rail infrastructure of the Richards Bay Coal Terminal, which is the largest of its kind in the world. The terminal comprises of, inter alia, 85 000m of track, 150 turnouts as well as diamonds and block joints. In addition, 15 000m of stacker reclaimer and shiploader tracks are maintained. RACEC’s Richards Bay branch has a 4 star platinum NOSA rating.

Other valued Clients include: SARCC, Metro Rail, Kumba Resources, Sappi, Saldanha Steel, Caltex, Mittal Steel, BHP Billiton and Spoornet (National).

Some of the more recent projects successfully carried out by RACEC Rail (Pty) Ltd are:-

  • Upgrading of Kei Rail for Department of Transport
  • Rail deviation for Platinum Highway at Wolmerton
  • Upgrading of turnouts nationally for Spoornet. Universal concrete sleepers (a first ever)
  • Construction of load-out stations for Kumba Resources at Sishen Mine
  • Construction of gantry tracks for SA Ports operation at Saldanha Port
  • Upgrading of rail infrastructure for MPDC at the Port of Maputo, Mozambique
